When adding a new defendant to a case there is an option to search by Name/Company. This functionality is only useful for Linked Cases, that way a defendant and their insurance and adjuster details can be saved to the other case. This functionality should not be used for unrelated cases as any updates to the defendant and their details, such as claim number, will be shared across all cases.
