Wrongful Death Case Type: Death cases may be saved using the case type of Wrongful Death. This case type provides a Custom Tab with a Date of Death field.

Using Other Case Types: If a specific PI Case Type is preferred ( such as Auto Accident or Product Liability), then the Date of Loss/Date of Incident field in the Case Index may be used to enter the Date of Death if appropriate.

Client Tab: The client in the case is the person we represent, usually the next of kin of the decedent. Entering the representative as the client ensures that client templates sent will apply to their contact information and ensures that client letters or marketing letters are never sent in the name of a decedent.

Key Contact: This field should be used for the name of the decedent. Their role can be OTHER, or else it could be their relationship to the client (Mother, Son, etc.)

The Critical Case Note field in the Case Index may also be modified to include the decedent’s dates of birth and death.

Custom Templates: When the decedent is the Key Contact, some Wrongful Death Specific Templates may need to be created, adjusted, or edited after merge to include the Key Contact field for the name of the decedent.
